Seminars and Conferences

An ELSA-Seminar is a country or Europe wide gathering of law students, trainee and young lawyers or other interested people. It aims to academically debate a certain topic and to discuss and work on possible solutions through lectures and panel discussions. A conference provides the additional opportunity of deeply and interactively dealing with special issues in workshops.

As for content there is a vast selection of topics to be discussed in ELSA seminars and conferences, for instance:

  • legal fields with international context (trade law, business law, anti trust law, competition law etc.)

  • international general legal issues (human rights, the international criminal court etc.)

  • Europe wide legal issues (environmental law, media law etc.)

  • overview of other legal systems, mainly the common law system

  • issues of democracy, the rule of law, protection of the constitution, inner security etc.

  • European Union (eastward enlargement, standardisation of law, currency issues etc.)

  • comparative, historic and philosophic legal issues

  • findings in recent legal fields (internet and law, genetic engineering)

  • legal education

  • general controversies (terrorism, human genetics, scientology etc.)

Only ELSA as the leading organisation of law students and young lawyers with differing legal backgrounds across Europe can provide for interesting discussions of a broad bandwidth of topics in this particular arrangement.
